Blues Fest Guide
Need to see and hear the Blues on the other 51 weekends this year ... ? Of course you do. Check out:
The Cornbread Brothers Blues Band and Nightclub Orchestra featuring Rex Bongo on lead guitar and vocals and Ray Gunn on bass guitar and vocals. The Brothers have been a fixture on the Fort Myers scene for the past five years. Their forte is classic rock and blues, but they're also well versed in classic soul and R & B, country, and southern rock, as well as possess an extensive repertoire of eclectic originals.
Sean Chambers spent the first few years of his life growing up in Satellite Beach, Florida, before he and his family moved to Tampa when Sean was four years old. At the age of 10, Sean’s parents bought him a guitar as a Christmas present. It was at that point that Chambers would realize his calling. “As soon as I got the hang of playing the guitar, I knew this is what I wanted to do more than anything,” remembers Sean.
Chicago blues is now also synonymous with guitarist Nick Moss. Though the golden era of Chicago blues is long past with many of its key players deceased or retired, this young Chicagoan stands tallest in the current generation of blues performers that honor the letter and spirit of the great urban African-American music. No less than Jimmy Rogers saw Nick as a protégé, a torchbearer, and a colleague. Leading Chicago-style guitarist Buddy Guy sanctions his talent: “Nick Moss is one of the local favorites at my club, Legends.
John Allender was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio and learned the guitar starting in 1983 from various Cleveland blues and jazz greats including Robert Jr. Lockwood, Butch Armstrong, Ernie Krioda, Frankie Starr and Bill Durango. John moved to the areas 5 years ago where he hooked up with T-Bone on bass and Doug Jefferson on drums.
GREG NAGY, formerly with the Root Doctor Band, took his rightful place among today’s leading American roots musicians with the 2009 release of his first feature album, Walk That Fine Thin Line. His songwriting, singing, and guitar playing were at high levels, the ten tracks evidencing a personalized blues music refreshingly infused with elements of soul, r&b, rock, and gospel.
In a generation that has forgotten its musical roots, Delta Highway Bkues breathes youth and energy back into the blues. With strong guitar sounds reminiscent of Muddy Waters and R.L. Burnside, combined with a progressive harmonica sound, this Memphis band has developed a style that is all their own and sure to please new and veteran blues fans alike.
Motor City Josh & The Big 3 have a mission to bring the "Funky Blues You Can't Refuse!"
to everyone: young, old, black, white, rich or poor all over the planet. If there are 50 people or 5000 you will get a great show with loads of entertainment. No one has more fun on stage than Josh and it is very contagious to the crowd.
Although he took his musical apprenticeship with the legendary Junior Wells, an evening with Albert Castiglia isn't just another cruise through the blues. A consummate showman, Castiglia peppers his performances with witty repartee, offbeat and impromptu asides, original songs, and material mined from a diverse classic rock repertoire.
